International recognition: Grand Prix du Disque, Académie Charles-Cros — Musiques du Monde, domaine étranger; one of the fifteen Grands Prix du Disque for 2003 (56ème Palmarès), awarded to Parissa and Ensemble Dastan for Shoorideh (Network 24 253 / Harmonia Mundi) and announced November 2003. Presented at the Radio France auditorium, Paris, December 14, 2003, by Académie president Alain Fantapié, to Parissa, Dastan, and the publishers Network and Harmonia Mundi. Persian press reported that ceremony as a "diploma for best musical work of 2003" from the French Ministry of Culture (Gooya, Abbas Bakhtiari, Paris, December 14, 2003), naming the presenter as «آلن فون تاپی» — that is Fantapié, the Académie's own president, and the palmarès and certificate both show a single award, so this was one honour reported twice, not two. Choc, Le Monde de la Musique (August 2003); Le Monde called the album a "choc musical" (musical shock); Bravo, Trad Magazine (September 2003); Recommandé, Classica (France); charted on World Music Charts Europe for approximately two months (September–October 2003); ranked #2 on the Portuguese chart "Top of Asia" (Crónicas da Terra, February 2004).
Press: "choc musical" and "extraordinary in every sense" (Le Monde). "Her crystal clear singing caresses the ear" (Libération). "A marvellous double CD, music of moving beauty!" (Classica). "A miraculous voice" (Jazzthetik). "The great diva of Persian music returns with a marvellous CD" (Harper's Bazaar). Australian reception (August 2003): The Planet on ABC Radio National — Lucky Oceans' world-music program — praised Shoorideh as "a double CD by the foremost female singer of Persian traditional music, working with five very skilled instrumentalists… extremely beautiful, highly interactive music, at once very refined and deeply emotional." A shortened form of that line ("at once refined and deeply emotional") later circulated in festival and venue program copy, including the Muslim Voices / Asia Society listings for her 2009 New York concerts; the original refers to this album, not to a concert review.
The New York Times previewed the Symphony Space concert in its Pop and Jazz Guide on the day of the performance (23 May 2003, Section E, page 30). Jon Pareles wrote that Parissa — whom the Times spelled Parisa — is "a leading traditional singer from Iran" who "has a repertory that includes both classical Persian music and Sufi songs; she is one of very few female performers from Iran who tour internationally," and described the Dastan Ensemble's art as "an improvisatory tradition that builds from meditative melodies to dazzling virtuosity." Pareles reused the same description when the Times previewed her return to the same hall in September 2006.
